Born in 1930, Easa Husain Al-Yousifi grew to adulthood at a time when there were no cars, radios, or electricity in Kuwait. Ambitious and determined, after a few years of basic schooling, he went to night school to learn English. He established a small shop in the old Merchant’s Souk in Sharq in 1955 to sell household goods.
